Health Initiatives
Grant Priority AreaIn a state ranked 49th in obesity and 48th in overall healthiness, preventive health measures are an important part of health promotion efforts. These efforts have been recognized as a cost-effective way to identify and treat preventable health problems like diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and heart disease before they develop or worsen. Access to mental health resources and counseling are equally important to an individual’s overall health and well being.
Our priorities:
- Efforts to promote healthy eating and active communities (these efforts go beyond simple access and focus more on in depth programming)
- Preventive health measures
- Programs that provide mental health and counseling services, especially to the underserved
Past Grants
Charles Henderson Child Health Center
A grant of $15,000 was made to the Charles Henderson Child Health Center in Troy for assistance in implementing two new initiatives.
Creative Wellness Institute
The Daniel Foundation awarded Creative Wellness Institute a grant of $12,500 for their Family Care Initiative.
Gateway
Gateway received a grant for $15,000 from the Daniel Foundation to continue their program of school based counseling.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation received a grant for $75,000 towards Diabetes research projects.
Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy
Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy received a grant of $20,000 from the Foundation for the purchase of generic medications for their patients.

Sight Savers America received a multiyear grant for $90,000 for their vision and health programs.
