The Tennessee Valley Art Association, located in Tuscumbia, requested a one time capacity building grant to recruit and hire a full time Arts Program Director. This position will supervise and further develop the Art Association’s theatre arts program. The foundation’s grant of $25,000 will help supplement the first year’s salary and allow the organization to recruit a qualified individual to build on the programs and success of the TVAA. The TVAA serves Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence counties in northwest Alabama. Over 12,000 residents of the area benefit from their programs each year.
The TVAA includes a museum with visual arts programming in Tuscumbia and the Ritz Theatre, home to their theatre and dance programs in Sheffield. They offer afterschool programs in the arts as well as in school programs to 17 schools in the area that would have very little to no arts programming if not for the TVAA. Programs provided by the TVAA include a string school for adults and children, a community orchestra, and a community theatre series.
