A gift of $250,000 was made to the renovation efforts of the historic Lyric Theatre in downtown Birmingham. This Birmingham Landmark’s project was an opportunity for the Daniel Foundation to be involved with a project that preserves history and provides for space for both the arts and cultural offerings in the community.
Funds were requested to assist the efforts to reopen the 100 year old vaudeville theatre and allow it to take its place as a highly in demand arts center in Birmingham. With the ornate, European style interior, famous “pin-drop” acoustics, wide stage wings and intimate seating for 800, the Lyric Theatre will fill a gap in the city’s performance venues. The goal of this project was $7,000,000. The Foundation has been a Birmingham Landmark partner since 1987. Birmingham Landmark has undertaken various projects considered to be of historic significance to the city of Birmingham. They were responsible for the Alabama Theatre renovation and seek to preserve other historic buildings for the enjoyment of the citizens of Alabama.
